New regulations under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) were implemented in which the University is required to ensure that our websites and mobile applications, including but not limited to the content in the learning management systems, web-based and mobile applications, and all data stored on UMBC’s websites or sites, are accessible to people with disabilities. These new regulations will go into effect as of April 2026.
The work of ensuring compliance, which is well underway, will be overseen by both the Division of Institutional Equity and the Division of Information Technology recognizing this is a shared responsibility for all of us across campus. To that end, we are creating a new Digital Accessibility Steering Committee.
The purpose of the Digital Accessibility Steering Committee is to help guide the University’s digital accessibility efforts as it relates to remediation, policy and oversight, monitoring and reporting, procurement and purchasing, current and future resources, and benchmarking.
This committee will be co-chaired by the VP’s of Institutional Equity and Information Technology. The committee will be comprised of representation from the following areas:
- Provost’s Office;
- Dean’s Office of each college or School;
- Office of the General Counsel;
- Vice President for Administration and Finance or designee;
- University Communications and Marketing;

- The Assistant Vice President for Accessibility and Disability Services;
